Frequently Asked Questions

Is financing available?
Yes, South Coast Pools works directly with Pool Financing direct lenders and can usually get qualified homeowners approved in 30 minutes or less.
Does a pool add value to your home?
Depending on the geographical location, a pool can increase the value of your home between 8%-13%.
How much does it cost to maintain my pool?
With the technology of energy efficient pool pumps and heaters today, pool maintenance is more affordable than ever. While many people can maintain their own pool, we always recommend weekly service from professional pool service technicians. Weekly pool service costs range from about $60-100 per month.
What is the difference between pebble and plaster finish?
Traditional pool plaster is a combination of white portland cement and crushed white marble, also known as pool mix. Plaster finish wears faster than pebble and quartz finishes because the marble mix tends to erode faster due to the acid balance (PH) in the pool’s water chemistry. On the other hand, pebble finishes are the leader in durability in the industry. Pebble finishes are a combination of portland white cement, color packs, blends of different color pebbles, and quartz rocks. Due to the mix of these aggregates, the pebble finishes tend to cure much harder and wear better throughout time. They also withstand the harsh process of acid washing much better than traditional pool plaster.
What additions can I add to my pool during a remodel?
Remodeling your pool is the perfect time to add the features you have always wanted to your pool. Many of our clients decide to add spas, rock slides, grottos with artificial boulders, water and fire features, outdoor kitchens, and swim up bars when remodeling an existing pool.
What is a Pool Start-up or Initial Water Treatment (IWT)?
The additive of calcium in the pool plaster mix helps create dust that can cure on your new plaster pool finish in addition to leaving unsightly marks and stains on the surface and walls. The first seven days after a pool has been plastered is the most crucial to remove this dust from the pool and properly balance the chemicals. The chemicals in the pool, especially the PH, will fluctuate heavily the first week after a newly plastered pool has been filled and must frequently be adjusted. For this reason, we in the industry recommend that professional pool service technicians handle the Initial Water Treatment.
I have a small and difficult yard to work with. Can I still have a pool?
Small yards can still have a pool as long as the design works for you and your property. Our designers will be able to consult with you to help create your ideal setup for your space. Our 3D design software will help you get a realistic visual of what it will look like before construction gets underway.
I have seen advertisements for pools at very low prices. What’s the catch?
As the saying goes, “Good’s not cheap and cheap’s not good.” There are many people out there soliciting pools for much less than reputable pool builders. Please keep in mind that there are many differences between a well-built pool and subpar-built pool. Well-built pools are built with the best available materials and engineering. Items, such as how the rebar is engineered and the PSI (i.e. Pounds per Square Inch) of the pool shell, all come into play in a well-built pool. Many contractors, both licensed and unlicensed, can cut corners in these areas without the homeowner knowing any better. We at South Coast Pools pledge to build your pool as if we were building our own with the utmost quality and integrity. We sleep well at night knowing our pools are built right and will be used and enjoyed for generations to come.
What happens if I live in an area with a High Water Table?
Areas that can have underground water tables, such as the coastline, can pose additional challenges and increased cost when installing a pool. In some areas, especially in Orange County (i.e. Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Cypress and Long Beach), running into a water table when excavating a pool is a higher risk. Water tables tend to vary in depth during certain parts of the year and depending on the weather at the time of your construction. Rest assured our crew has a wealth of experience with building in areas that contain water tables. Our designers will discuss your best options and best course of action during your free consultation.
